Why Your Amp Isn’t Working (Common Wiring Mistakes + Fixes)
Share
Wiring an amp correctly isn’t complicated, but it’s one of those things where small mistakes can completely ruin your setup. If your subs sound weak, your amp keeps cutting out, or you’re getting weird noise, there’s a good chance something in your wiring is off. The main things you want to focus on are clean power, a solid ground, and proper signal connections. That means running a good power wire from your battery with a fuse, keeping your ground short and bolted to bare metal, and making sure your RCA cables are plugged in tight and not running right next to your power wire. A lot of people rush this part and end up chasing problems later, but if you take your time and do it right the first time, your system will sound way better and be way more reliable.
Another big thing people overlook is matching everything correctly. Your amp, subs, and wiring all have to work together, not against each other. If your impedance is off or your gain is set wrong, it won’t matter how expensive your setup is—it’s not going to perform how it should. Start with your gain low, double check your wiring configuration, and make sure your settings like LPF and HPF are where they need to be. Once everything is wired clean and set up properly, that’s when you’ll actually get that loud, clean bass most people are aiming for instead of just noise.
